Still Ain't Over You Yet Let me make a confession, I was wrong To make that kind of bet You said, You're gonna miss me when I'm gone Baby, I missed you before you left And I still ain'y over you yet No, I still ain't over you yet Girl, is this as good as it’s ever gonna get I still ain’t over you yet Maybe I didn't know just what I had Before you slipped away But it must've been love to hurt this bad At least that's what they say And I still ain't over you yet No, I still ain't over you yet Girl, is this as good as it's ever gonna get I still ain't over you yet And I tried so hard to make things right I tried to make you turn around But when stubborn hearts get up to leave Sometimes they can't be talked back down Now I'm out on the town night after night Looking for something new But these little girls can't keep me satisfied Baby, 'cause they ain't you And I still ain't over you yet No, I still ain't over you yet Girl, is this as good as it's ever gonna get I still ain't over you yet

Jealousy 03:34
Jealousy When you and I first met our friends all said it wouldn't last / That we're both way too spontaneous and taking things too fast / As stubborn as we were we swore we'd never let that come to pass / Then we started digging up bones buried in each other's pasts And now jealousy / Has crept up in between of you and me / Like a divider that won't let us be / Happy or complete / 'Til we break free / Of jealousy We were just a couple kids in love out looking for some fun / We never got too worked up ‘bout the things that each other done / Then you started asking questions when I’d come home late at night / And every time the phone would ring, I’d be ready for a fight Because of jealousy / It crept up in between of you and me / Like a divider that won't let us be / Happy or complete / 'Til we break free / Of jealousy Like a cancer it crept in and took it's toll on me and you / Eating at the little parts until it tore our hearts clean through Now you're on your second marriage living in some other town / I heard the first one didn't stick because he liked to sleep around / Me, I haven't managed to move on to someone new because / It's better not to fall in love until you first learn how to trust Because jealousy / Will creep up in between of you and me / Like a divider that won't let us be Happy or complete / 'Til we break free /Of jealousy / 'Til we break free / Of jealousy / 'Til we break free / Of jealousy

Mama Dear 04:11
Mama Dear Come get me, mama, come and take me home Come get me, mama dear Come get me, mama, take these weary bones Far away from here Lead me to your waters, show me where they go A fountain flowing cool and clear Lead me to your waters, quench this thirsty soul And wash away these tears For I have lost my patience and all my hope is gone I have seen them disappear All that I have left is the love in me you’ve sown But there's not much left, I fear So come and get me, mama, come and take me home Come get me, mama dear Come get me, mama, take these weary bones Far away from here I have seen destruction and I have seen its toll I have seen the works of men I have seen their wealth, their power and control And I don't want no part of them These men have crushed my spirit, these men have crushed my soul These men have made my hands to sin They’ve stripped me of my conscience and left this empty whole This darkness deep within So come and get me, mama, come and take me home Come and get me, mama dear Come and get me, mama, take these weary bones Far away from here Can there be forgiveness, can I be wiped clean Can I be myself again Can there be redemption after all the things I’ve seen and where I’ve been So come and get me, mama, come and take me home Come and get me, mama dear Come and get me, mama, take these weary bones Far away from here

The Forgetting Place Up the road just a ways, there's a forgetting place Where thoughts disappear without a trace I go there sometimes when she enters my mind And I need help driving her away, oh, When I need help driving her away The lighting is low, music's sad and it's slow And cigarette smoke dances in the air The waitress is sweet and she brings me my drink And sits in front of my chair, oh, She sits it in front of my chair And we go if we want to forget /What we know if we have more regret /Than we know what to do with It's a solemn retreat from things that won't let you be When all you want is to be left alone Or a drunkard's delight, a safe place in the night For those who don't want to go home, no, For those who don't want to go home And we go if we want to forget / What we know if we have more regret / Than we know what to do with
11.
Everything To Me I'll never stop loving you /Even though we be apart I just want you to know that you'll always have a piece of my heart And if you want to get out of here / If ever tired of this life you grow I would leave behind everything and follow you wherever you go 'Cause when you're with me / I'm the best that I'll ever be And it means everything to me / You mean everything to me If you fall apart / Somewhere down the line You can pick up the phone, yeah, you call me up anytime And I'll tell you my thoughts / Things I'vee never told Like my visions of me and you together on a front porch swing growing old 'Cause when you're with me / I see all I'll ever need And it means everything to me / You mean everything to me I'll never stop loving you /For the rest of my life I wanna pick you up and carry you back home and make you my wife For the rest of time /Until the end of my days I wanna spend my life holding you and learning how to love you in brand new ways ‘Cause when you’re with me Everything is as it should be And it means everything to me You mean everything to me Everything to me

I'LL SEE YOU SOON When I woke up this morning, I reached out for you Like I always do On your side of the bed there was nothing to find Hasn't been for some time It's been twenty-five years since you left me here For a trip around the sun and the moon But I'll see you soon Thought about having breakfast but decided instead To go back to bed 'Cause there's a chair at the table that sits next to mine That still weighs on my mind Where we used to kill time drinking cheap carton wine Now it's quiet, silent as a tomb But I'll see you soon I woke up again at a quarter past two Still thinking of you And of the days we spent sleeping the afternoon through Just 'cause we wanted to Now it's just me in here trying hard to disappear But only fading more into you But I'll see you soon One day I'll wake up to your warm loving touch But for now, memories have to do But I'll see you soon Yes, I'll see you soon

about

…so not too long after we had wrapped up Covering the Distance, Jeff
let me know that he had an album’s worth of brand new songs. Sent me
demos, and I was blown away. With every new batch of tunes Jeff has
this uncanny knack of topping his own previous best and the new songs
were no exception. So, with …Distance barely released, we went right
back into the studio to do another. But this time with a difference…

Everyone involved loved the way the live acoustic tracks had turned
out, so we wanted the next record to be done as live as possible. It
was pretty obvious that this could only be done with the same Covering
the Distance crew involved, jamming out the songs quickly in the
studio. So, we asked the Almighty Bud Carroll to pull together the
West Virginia A-Team of Steve Barker, Jimmy Lykens, Jon Cavendish and
Phil James to build the arrangements that would ultimately bring these
songs to life. And on a few of the tracks we were especially fortunate
to have contributions from Wilson Creek—Jessica Adkins, Heather Adkins
and Rudy Rohr—to complement Jeff’s deep Appalachian roots.

According to plan, the songs on this album were for the most part
recorded live in the Ohio University School of Media Arts and Studies
Recording Studio in Athens with my great music production students
during the crazy cold winter of 2009, with minimal overdubs. Now, in
early summer, as I mix the songs, after hearing them many, many times,
I remain deeply moved by the emotional honesty and artistic integrity
that Jeff brings to everything he does. It has been a real privilege
to work with Jeff over the last couple of years, and like everyone
else who follows his music, I can only look forward to his next batch
of songs that, I’m sure, will once again take Jeff’s heartfelt
impressions of the people and places he’s known and loved, and make
them our own.
