lyrics
When it’s over, sometimes it’s hard to walk away,
but I know if I stay I’ll only hurt you,
and I’d rather leave than lose your love.
When it’s over, it’s so hard to part without regrets,
but this is for the best.
I’ll always love you.
Still sometimes love’s just not enough.
So for now I’ve got to go.
We both know we deserve more.
Don’t cry – it’s not the end.
I’d much rather lose my lover than lose my friend.
It’s a hard thing to know if you can trust your heart
when we should be apart – you know I’m right.
It doesn’t make sense just holding on.
Yeah, it’s a hard thing to say you’re too tired to try,
and I wish I knew why some people change.
Sometimes what’s right can feel so wrong.
So for now I’ve got to go.
We both know we deserve more.
Don’t cry – it’s not the end.
I’d much rather lose my lover than lose my friend.
I need to tell you, you’ll always be my true love,
but I just need too much of what you can’t give.
Believe me, I wish it wasn’t so.
But when I tell you I love you I mean every word,
every single word, and that won’t change.
I hope with this song you’ll always know.
So for now I’ve got to go.
We both know we deserve more.
Don’t cry – it’s not the end.
I’d much rather lose my lover than lose my friend.
These songs are the kind of gems that rarely come about for anyone without a long practice of songwriting. The language of the lyrics is always original, connecting commonly felt things in new ways. The music, delivery, and band are perfect vehicles for these wonderful songs. pdxshinn
Powerful collection rooted in the stories that must be re-told. Played by some of the most generous community music people I’ve met during my foray into Old Time music.
This CD is a keeper! Ellen B. (Elly) Marshall
Wow. One of those rare instant-impact albums. I came to it the "wrong" way round, already familiar with Allison's outstanding Outside Child - one of the finest albums of the past 12 months.
And it's in the same plane - albeit different from her solo masterpiece, though with many similar characteristics, such as on Travelers and Roisin Starchild.
Love in Wartime hits so many peaks - in musicianship, lyrics, genres and especially melody. Neville Dalton
Long time follower of Mark's work. I know every album is stellar without question. This album is no different, but even better if that is possible. Love it! norm tandberg
The instrumentation and songwriting in this album is really top-tier. Aofie is one of my favorite folk/alt-country artists and she performs wonderfully, bringing her unique tone of voice to this project. This album was my first step into Aofie's artistry, and is firmly one of my favorite albums. rileyridgway
